Luang Prabang the Cultural Capital of Laos

Laos is one of the untouched countries in Southeast Asia. It is just opening up to the world, and visitors to the country will agree that there is a charm and appeal in Laos that makes the country unique. Luang Prabang is one of the cities in Laos that is a must see.

There is much to see and do in Luang Prabang. In terms of natural sites, there is the Kuang Si Falls. The waterfall is a favorite spot for Luang Prabang visitors because of the 180 feet main waterfall and several 15 feet falls all dropping down into a mineral blue green pool below. Pak Ou Caves is another place to visit while in Luang Prabang and can only be reached by boat. The caves itself are filled with hundreds of Buddhist sculptures which were assembled throughout the centuries by the locals.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site also boasts colorful culture. Monks on alms walks are a common but still very picturesque site. Visitors can also visit that National Museum (which was once the Royal Palace) or Wat Xieng Thong temple for a taste of culture and history. The city is also home to many colonial style buildings that add to the scenery of Luang Prabang.
