Sandals Resorts newest property is a gem! Sandals Emerald Bay is located in the Exumas, the Out Islands of the Bahamas. Enjoy these photos of some of the beautifully appointed common spaces on property:

We love the rich dark woods and cooling neutral palettes...

The chic, classic Caribbean style greets you from the moment you step into the lobby:

Do we really need any words to describe the beach?

If you need words, think sugar sand, calm waves, and the warmest clear water around...

The Boathouse Restaurant is reminiscent of a posh yacht club...

Being that Sandals Emerald Bay is a new hotel, there are some great promotion rates right now - up to 65% off + 1 night free! Combine this with great airfare rates from the US or cheap flights to the Caribbean from London.

Visiting the Island of Eleuthera in The Bahamas

Eleuthera, an out-island of The Bahamas, is not for everyone. If you're seeking nightlife, casinos, attractions, malls and more, then Eleuthera is not for you. However, if you simply want to relax on a secluded pink sand beach and enjoy the sound of the ocean and the search for sells, then Eleuthera fits the bill.

Accommodations

Finding accommodations on the island of Eleuthera can be an adventure on its own. Places to stay range from modern (but small) hotels and quaint inns to renting self-catering homes or cottages. Prices range from several hundreds of dollars to under one hundred dollars per night. There are choices to fit almost every budget.

Car Rental

Even though Eleuthera has a very small population, it is a fairly large, long and narrow island. The island is approximately 100 miles long but only 2 miles wide at its widest point. So, having access to transportation is vital if you want to get around and visit any of the beaches or got to restaurants and other local attractions. Renting a car on Eleuthera will be a different experience than most people are used to. There aren't any national car rental companies. You'll be renting directly from a Bahamian business person. Most likely you'll rent a car at the airport where you arrive. If not, any hot you stay at will be able to arrange a rental for you. Usually a formal agreement isn't required by the person renting you the vehicle. The individual renting you the car may ask for some information, such as you're name and the hotel you're staying at. But, often as not, they'll hand yo the keys, give you their name and possible their card and ask you when you plan to return the card. Yes, it can be that simple. Be sure to negotiate the price of the rental. Daily rental rates can vary widely - from about $40 to $70 - depending on who you're renting from and how long you plan to keep the car. The daily rate should go down if you need the car for a week or more. Expect to pay the higher rate if you only want the car for a day or two. Be sure to have enough cash for the total of your rental cost. Don't expect credit cards to be accepted for your rental.

Getting To Eleuthera

By plane From the U.S.A. When planning to arrive in Eleuthera by air, remember there are three airports and the island is 110 miles long. Eleuthera actually has three international airports - North Eleuthera (ELH), Governor's Harbour (GHB) and Rock Sound (RSD). Be sure to pick the airport that's closest to where you're staying. Currently there are four airlines servicing Eleuthera directly from the US. Most airlines leave from Fort Lauderdale and some leave from Miami.

* Twin Air

* Lynx Air

* Continental

* American Eagle

By plane from Nassau, Bahamas You can also arrive in the Bahamas through Nassau (NAS) and transfer to a local airline to continue on to Eleuthera.

* BahamasAir

* Southern Air

By Fast Ferry from Nassau, Bahamas If you're coming to Eleuthera from Nassau, you have the option of using the fast ferry - The Bo Hengy. It leaves Nassau from Potter's Cay in the morning and stops at Spanish Wells and Harbour Island. You can get a water tax from either Spanish Wells or Harbour Island to mainland Eleuthera. You'll be able to get a tax or rent at car at either dock.

Restaurants

Restaurants on Eleuthera range from small take-aways to world-class cuisine. Be sure to try a small Bahamian-owned restaurant to experience some authentic Bahamian food like peas and rice, conch chowder or conch salad.

The Beaches

Eleuthera has many fabulous beaches, the most famous of which is Pink Sand Beach on Harbour Island. However, if you want a less-frequented beach, you'll find lots of them on Eleuthera. Unfortunately, many of the are very hard to find. A guide to finding the beaches - The Elusive Beaches of Eleuthera - can be invaluable in help you to find fabulous beaches that you'll often have all to yourselves. No, Eleuthera isn't for everyone, but it can make for a memorable vacation experience.

A Few Caribbean Spots Make the Top 10 Snorkel List

This is a great article from Coastal Living via CNN... "(Coastal Living) -- Underwater photographer and adventurer Tanya Burnett-Palmer shares her favorite places to sightsee beneath the waves.

Dean's Blue Hole, Long Island, Bahamas
A blue hole is created when the ceiling to an ancient cave system collapses in the ocean -- Dean's is thought to be the world's deepest. Fin your way off the powder-white beach and watch the sand go from 5 to more than 600 feet deep in just a few kicks.
On-site secret: I found I could circumnavigate the entire blue hole by swimming along the cliff base and sandy shoals. On a light-wind day, it's easy to snorkel the protective reef near the mouth of the small bay.

Keep an eye out for: jacks, tarpon, turtles, the occasional dolphin or porpoise -- almost anything can wander in. Small reef fish stay in the shallows. Coastal Living: 2009 best seafood dives
When to go: all year; 242/338-0011 or reeldivers.com.

Hotels in Nassau & Paradise Island in Bahamas

The Bahamas is one of the most visited islands in the entire Caribbean region and this happens because it is very close the the mainland of North America (first Caribbean island which belongs to Bahamas is just at 45 miles distance to Florida!), but also due to the great accommodation offered by hotels in Bahamas. Actually, beach resorts in Bahamas welcome each year a few millions of tourists and the tourist industry of this country employs directly or indirectly about 50% of the local workforce! Most holiday makers choose to spend a vacation in Bahamas to enjoy the splendid beaches from there, to relax in hammocks under waving palm trees, to see beautiful sunsets in the cooling breeze of Caribbean Sea, to taste the spicy Bahamian food, or to practice a wide range of water sports such as scuba diving, snorkeling, windsurfing, kayaking, sailing, surfing, fishing and the list could continue almost endless...

The Bahamas is in fact an archipelago located in the northeastern side of Caribbean region, comprised of two bigger islands (New Providence and Grand Bahama) and a lot of smaller islands, named "The Out Islands", from which the most important are Abaco, Andros, Acklins and Crooked Island, Biminis, Berry Islands, Cat Island, Eleuthera, Exumas, Inaguas, Mayaguana, and San Salvador. As one of the renowned holiday destinations in Bahamas, island of New Providence attracts in its main vacation spots, Nassau and Paradise Island, a big part of travelers who visit this country. Hotels in Nassau and Paradise Island belong to the best of the entire archipelago and most of them are pretty crowded all year round. It features great accommodation amenities and range from 3 star budget units up to luxury 4 and 5 star hotels, which pamper tourists like few other resorts in Caribbean region do! Nassau is also the capital city of the country and the main entrance gate to the holiday resorts. Paradise Island is located off the shore of the city of Nassau and it is perhaps the best know Bahamian vacation destination, featuring also some of the best hotels in Bahamas. In this area the best hotels are Hotel Atlantis Royal Tower, Hotel The Cove at Atlantis, Hotel The Reef at Atlantis, Hotel British Colonial Hilton, all this being 5 star accommodation units, but also Hotel Atlantis Coral Tower, Hotel Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort (4 star resorts) or Hotel Paradise Island Harbour Resort, and Hotel Atlantis Beach Tower, which are 3 star hotels.

Hotels in Nassau and Paradise Island are not the only attractions on island of New Providence. There are a lot of duty-free shops, restaurants, old colonial buildings, cultural centers and, of course, many pristine beaches such as Cable Beach and Paradise Island Beach, which offer exciting holiday activities like sailing, water skiing, snorkeling, windsurfing, scuba diving, and fishing. People who want just to relax, enjoy a couple cocktails and lazing on comfortable sun beds are also welcomed...Tourists interested in cultural events can enjoy musical evenings and hear the frenetic rhythms of "junkanoo", "goombay" and "rake 'n' scrape", musical styles evolved of West African dance music brought by slaves to North America. The tropical atmosphere of this islands is also proper for weddings and tourists who want planning a such event or decide instantly to do it have to know that are required a residence for 24 hours prior to applying for a marriage license, birth certificates and a notarized affidavit. Most hotels are equipped to assist guests with marriage arrangements and have professional wedding planners who can organize a such event like in tales!

A vacation in Bahamas and its hotels is something unique and memories gained there last a lifetime! For longer holidays or just short breakaways, beach resorts in Bahamas are perfect and people who visited once this God blessed land will return again and again to enjoy better the freedom sensation that can be felt only in Caribbean...
