Mazatlan is the Pearl of the Pacific

With its wide sandy beaches, exquisite sunsets, and tropical weather, Mazatlan is a true paradise and has rightfully earned the nickname "the Pearl of the Pacific." Mazatlan retains its native Mexican culture while accommodating the tourist with the comfort and convenience of beachfront hotels, resorts, and service that make Mazatlan a great vacation spot.

There is much to do in Mazatlan, and something for everyone. Taking a walk, biking, or rollerblading along the "malecon" (seafront promenade) and staring out at the awesome views of the ocean is a must-do. Stroll along the miles of continuous wide sandy beaches. You can also go water skiing or para-sailing. Experience the musicians playing traditional music and vendors selling their wares along the beach. If deep sea fishing is your thing, Mazatlan is great for that as well.

Besides the beach and water activities, Mazatlan has a lot to offer around the old town area. Walk around the quiet plazas and maybe stop in one of the many cafes and restaurants to enjoy great traditional food and drinks. The "mercado" (marketplace) is an experience in itself, alive with activity and offering a great assortment of souvenirs for the tourist. The shops around the "mercardo" have more to chose from if you're looking to do some serious shopping. Remember to visit the cathedral, a beautiful landmark inside and out that promises to provide great opportunities for photographs.

Mazatlan is also a great place for golfing. Mazatlan offers three golf courses, including the excellent Estrella Del Mar course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. This course is located on premium oceanfront property and offers stunning views of the beach and ocean from many of its holes.

Although somewhat less popular, the museums and many of the jewelry and artisan craft shops in Mazatlan are worth a look, as well as the Mazatlan aquarium. When traveling from place to place, a fun ride on a "pulmonia" - the open-air taxis of Mazatlan - is always a great way to go.

Mazatlan's nightlife always exceeds expectations. A nice walk along the "malecon" or a meal at an oceanfront restaurant, or even one of the street-side food carts is a pleasant way to pass the evening. If looking for a livelier atmosphere, the clubs in Mazatlan, particularly those at Fiestaland in the Golden Zone offer dancing, live music, and dining. For a more tranquil yet lively atmosphere, Plaza Machado in old town Mazatlan has outdoor dining and live musicians. For those looking for theater or classical music performances, the Angela Peralta theater in Plaza Machado has a fairly busy performance schedule year-round.

Mazatlan is seeing tremendous growth and many new hotels and resorts are being constructed in the expanding northern part of the city. Mazatlan will have more to offer in the coming years and is opening it's arms even more to tourists. Mazatlan is an excellent vacation spot, one which you'll want to return to over and over again!
