Perfect Summer At Trentino


Trentino in the northern most regions of Italy is filled with extensive nature reserves, impressive mountain ranges, authentic towns, medieval castles and a rich tradition of legends. For someone who loves nature, the outdoor and sports, there is much to look forward to in the mountains of Trentino. The towns in the area are beautiful and are built mainly out of wood. A few places worth a visiting are:

• Rovereto, the medieval city. This city has the famous bell La Campana dei Caduti (The bell of the Fallen). This bell chimes a 100 times in remembrance of all those who died here during the II World War. This bell has the distinction of being the biggest bell in the world.

•Italian Historical War Museum, located in a medieval castle that boasts of 15th century Vietnam war architecture with tunnels, towers and moats. There is a gallery where the artillery used during the war is displayed.

• Cathedral of San Virgilio, built in the 12th century over a 6th century church. It is dedicated to the patron saint of the city San Virgilio

• The Castello del Buonconsiglio (Castle of Good Counsel) of the 15th century includes a provincial Art Museum which has masterpieces like the Fifteenth Century Cycle of the Months and the Eagle Tower.

• Trento Historical Museum and The Gianni Caproni Aeronautical Museum are other must visit sites.

Other places to visit in Trentino are the numerous Roman churches and remains of the Roman streets. Some villages like Merano, Brunico, Bressanone, Vipiteno, Trento and Bolzano are definitely worth a visit for their unique characters. Be sure to check out the traditional festivities with their typical costumes and the old trade farms in these villages. Also take note of the many different languages you will get to hear in these places.

If you're not tired, then you can have a peek at Bormio which is about sixty miles from Madonna di Campiglio. Bormio happens to be the entry point of one of the largest National Parks in the Alps.

Now for the food. The food in Trentino consists mainly of wild mushrooms, butter and cheese which are available in the local markets in abundance. Not very surprisingly owing to the lakes and rivers in the region, fish forms another important component of the diet. The Trentino region is the 16th among all the regions in Italy dedicated to producing wines. The region has about 20 different types of wines. So you have a lot of wine tasting to do when you are here.
