How to Be a Green Traveler?

With the summer upon us many people are finalizing their holiday plans if they haven't already done so. In these difficult financial times many are opting to stay within the UK rather than venture abroad, providing a great opportunity to get to know our own country and also reducing the need to travel by plane. For those still traveling to other shores, there are also many different ways to travel, which can in fact be an adventure in themselves.

Traveling by plane produces vast quantities of greenhouse gases, and reducing or cutting air travel out altogether can make a big difference to your carbon footprint. Especially when traveling abroad, it is easy to instantly think about flying to your destination, but there are often alternatives which will almost certainly be greener, could be cheaper and will often become part of the fun of the holiday.

Within Europe in particular there are plenty of options to travel by ferry, train or coach. The numerous UK ferry ports travel to various destinations in both northern and southern Europe with the longer journeys often a mini holiday in themselves. Once at your destination, look into train or coach travel for the remainder of your journey. Coach travel from the UK is also an option with companies offering various packages across Europe.

You can, of course, travel by train direct from the UK to mainland Europe using the Eurostar. There are all sorts of travel tickets available allowing you to work out the most cost effective and quickest (or longest if you want to take in some more scenery and locations) way to travel. With sleeper carriages on many long distance trains, you can travel in comfort with the whole family.

If you are traveling further than Europe, the options are of course more expensive and take longer, but it is worth looking into the options available as you can make the journey part of your holiday.

Whatever your travel plans this summer and beyond, do consider alternatives to flying; it will probably make a refreshing change to your traveling and will also help the environment.

Zante a Small and Beautiful Island in Greece

So you fancy a holiday in the Greek islands but you are not sure which one is right for you? They all have great weather. Most of them have nice beaches. Some of them have warm seas ideal for water sports. It can be difficult to choose.

You also have to consider the cost. For families with older children, in particular, things soon mount up. They have four flights to pay for and need to book two rooms. Add in spending money once they arrive and the cost escalates still further.

If you want a great destination that offers good value for money I would recommend Zante. It has some of the best scenery you will ever see. The island is small, just 40 kilometers long by 20 kilometers wide, but is blessed with a large number of golden beaches spread over its 120 kilometers of coastline. The most stunning beach on the island, perhaps the most scenic on all the Greek islands, is Smugglers Cove. You can only get there by boat but it is well worth a trip. Get there early, before it gets too busy, and take your camera.

The island has the bonus of offering a wide range of accommodation at very reasonable prices. One of the best solutions is to get a Zante apartment. You can sleep two, four or even six people comfortably. Parents can still get some privacy at night. When you want a rest you can watch a selection of DVDs in your apartment. Best of all, however, is the freedom an apartment allows when it comes to meals. You can stock up your fridge with fruit, drinks and ingredients for sandwiches if you just fancy taking a packed lunch to the beach or leisure park. You can have breakfast at whatever time suits you. You can go to a restaurant for dinner some nights, stay in your Zante apartment and eat whatever you please on other nights.

If you look around you can find great value deals on comfortable, spacious and well located apartments. Ask your travel agent about Zante apartments, or check out your options on the internet. You will be pleasantly surprised by the range on offer.

Top 5 Sun Holiday Destinations

1. Sightseeing in Croatia

If it's a holiday in the sun you're after, a trip to Croatia will certainly suffice. Situated on the Adriatic Sea, Croatia's rocky coastline is intriguing and beautiful, making it a prime spot to get some sun while enjoying exceptional scenery.

It's not only the coast that makes Croatia a good sun holiday destination, with the rolling hills in the north and northeast, and the thick forests of the mountains in Lika and Gorski Kotar providing a good contrast to the beach summer holiday stereotype.

When you're in the mood for a bit of sightseeing, Croatia boasts eight National Parks and seven World Heritage Sites, ensuring you'll never be short of something to do.

2. Sun and Culture in Cyprus

Cyprus is a culturally rich sun holiday destination, where lazy days spent on the beach can be coupled with fascinating cultural excursions. Choirokoita is possibly the best preserved site of prehistoric settlement in the Eastern Mediterranean, where you can sneak a peak into an ancient civilisation. Wander through Roman villas where floor mosaics depict mythological scenes, and pay a visit to the underground tombs of kings.

A wide variety of beaches are, of course, readily at your disposal. Pick a beach to suit your mood, from secluded bays to stretching sandy coastlines or rocky coves.

3. The Miniature Continent of Gran Canaria

One of the seven Canary Islands, Gran Canaria is a 'miniature continent' in its own right, with a variety of landscapes and climates despite its small size. A holiday in the sun is virtually a permanent possibility on this island, with average temperatures being 20˚ even in winter.

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the capital city, is known for its vibrant nightlife, as well as miles and miles of beautiful beaches. For a quieter and more local experience, Agüines is a small traditional Canarian town, centred around its old church. Another worthwhile stop is Vecindario, a town predominantly inhabited by locals, with a weekly open air market selling local goods.

4. Volcanic Landscapes in Lanzarote

A truly unique sun holiday destination, Lanzarote's volcanic landscapes contrast rocky mountains and beautiful beaches. With volcanic eruptions as recent as 1824, large parts of the island have landscapes which look like something from another world. El Golfo is a volcanic crater filled by sea water made green by algae, creating a green lagoon surrounded by black sand banks.

The Timanfaya National Park is a must for anyone travelling in the region, where 100 volcanoes rose up and dramatically altered the landscape. This mountainous region is known the Montanas del Fuego (Fire Mountains), and the temperature just below the surface is between 400˚ and 600˚. You will be sure to witness a demonstration of this heat by someone at the park, where a dry brush is thrown down a hole in the earth and instantly ignites.

In addition to the stark volcanic landscapes, golden, black and white sandy beaches line the coast, providing relaxing relief from exploring the inland wonders and creating a holiday in the sun with a difference.

5. A Taste of Turkey

Turkey marks the gateway between Europe and Asia, creating a blend of Eastern and Western cultures and traditions. Encircled by the sea on three sides, Turkey is a beautiful sun holiday destination. With the Aegean Sea in the West, the Black Sea in the North, the Mediterranean Sea in the South, and the Sea of Marmara situated inland, there is certainly no shortage of beach.

Exploring Turkey is an exciting endeavour, with the culture, music and food all displaying the blend of cultures making up this unique land. Enjoy delicious dining as you feast on simple dolmas, or enjoy the principle fish of Turkey, Hamsi, which is served in 41 different ways (including a dessert!). You can expect great-tasting food, interesting culture and beautiful scenery, making for a great holiday in the sun.

Book Review - The Reaper of Souls

Publisher's Summary: On 1 September, 1957, an excursion train left Montego Bay on its return trip to Kingston and met disaster halfway there. Dangerously overcrowded, it had rushed down towards Jamaica's central plains on its way back to the capital. Sometime after midnight, in wet conditions, the train derailed near Kendal, Manchester, creating a horrific tangle of wood, glass, steel and torn bodies. Of the 254 lives lost, 14, nearly 6 percent of the dead, were members of Beverley East's family.

In my own words: This is a truly gripping tale of how tragedy can form one's live and make us change course completely. I enjoyed this book primarily for its poignant view of Caribbean life and most importantly, for a glimpse into times-gone-by and the Jamaica of yesteryear. Once I started, I couldn't put it down. I picked up my copy at the airport in Kingston in April. You can order yours here.

Best Peru Vacation Guide

No doubt about it, traveling with kids can be tough, but worry not: we are here to assure you that South America is indeed a family-friendly travel destination; all you need is a little research, creativity and a great packing list!

Let's take Peru as an example: in a country as diverse and magical as this, options abound for activities that the whole family can participate in, enjoy and learn from. For starters there's the massive variety of geography in Peru, which alone provides plenty of options for adventurous families in search of an unforgettable vacation experience.

Options range from a jungle experience deep in the tropical selva, to admiring the stunning blue ice giants of Huaraz, exploring the impressive ruins of Machu Picchu (a definite requirement) and swimming on the glorious beaches of southern Peru or white-sanded northern Máncora. With just a little more research, plenty of kid (and adult) friendly activities can be found. To make traveling with kids extra easy, we've listed are a few unusual outings that'll be memorable for the whole family.

Starting off where many a Peru vacation begins, Lima has more than a few distinctly Peruvian activities to offer family travelers. First on the route is the Lima Zoo, known by its more formal name of Parque de las Leyendas. Warning: the zoo isn't up to the highest US standards but is a favorite of the locals and a great place to spend a few hours with the kids. Having undergone an extensive renovation of its animal pens, the park provides a variety of animals native to South America and beyond (giraffes and water buffalo included) as well as up close opportunities to even pet them!
Lima Zoo
Ave. La Marina, Block 24
Open 9am-5:30pm daily. Adults: US$ 3, children 3-11: US$ 1.30

Not far from Lima is another opportunity for up close wildlife experiences. At Pucusana Port, many families go on penguin and dolphin watching excursions. Located roughly 70 kilometers south of the capital, this is a small fishing town of only about 10,000 inhabitants. Life here remains much unchanged by recent developments in modern technology; the people still live off the ocean as they have for many generations past. Every morning, dolphins crowd to the port entrance and guided adventures can be arranged for children from a minimum age of five which will take you past the lazy sea lions sunning themselves on the hot rocks and occasionally flopping into the water for a fish snack.

If your goal is to provide a little eye-opening perspective for your kids, head south toward Lake Titicaca, and give your children the unforgettable opportunity to share for one day (or more) the lives of the indigenous communities who live on the lake's floating reed islands or Uros. Residents of Uros and the nearby craggy terraced islands of Amantini and Taquile still speak Quechua (the language of the Inca empire) and are happy to share their way of living with you. Take a hike to the island summit of Amanatini's Pachamama and Pachapa (Mother and Father Earth) temples or admire the precision of the centuries-old communal system Taquile Island; run entirely on a co-op system.

Boats and trips to Amantini, Uros and Taquile leave from Puno, on the Peruvian side of Lake Titicaca. Buses are 12 hours from Cusco.

Of course, a Peru vacation that bypasses Cusco and Machu Picchu would be absolutely inexcusable, especially when the goal of traveling abroad with kids is to open their minds to the world's mysteries and treasures. While a trip on the train to Machu Picchu is a definite must-do, don't forget that the remainder of the region offers a variety of other fun learning experiences as well. Visit the Inca 'ceremonial fortress' of Sacsayhuamán, located on a 3,000 hectare site just a mile from central Cuzco. This fortress offers a great landscape for exploring, climbing and fresh air fun-there's even a few stone slides (rodaderos) and adventurous tunnel called the chinkana. Additionally, guided trips through the ruins on horseback can be arranged, as well as a special riverside picnic at the 'holiday resort' favored by Incan rulers-Tambomachay.

If in search of some quiet time to spend with the family, head up north to Máncora for a little peaceful R & R. Although there are cultural learning opportunities to be had here just as across all of Peru, the main draw card is opportunity to relax and enjoy the beach, and soaking up some sun. And if the desire for action manages to overcome the lazy beach atmosphere; try your hand at mastering surfing and body boarding the world class waves. Animal lovers can also visit the UNESCO protected Amotape Forest, where over 100 different species of mammals, birds and reptiles can be found in their natural habitat.

Finally, the idea of letting your children run wild through a jungle might not seem a great idea but at the Pilpintuwasi Butterfly Farm and Animal Orphanage located a short boat ride away from Peru's jungle city of Iquitos, such an adventure is perfect for families.

Here, orphanage managers Gudrun Sperrer and Roblar Moreno have worked to expand the original facilities of the park to include an abandoned animal refuge. Children and parents can wander the grounds of this not-for-profit animal oasis, examining the hundreds of different butterflies as they glide through the air as well as play with a huge number of friendly monkeys, spotting enormous caiman in the lake, getting up close and personal with an orphaned jaguar and even pet fairy-tale worthy animals like a hulking tapir named Lolita and Rosa, the resident 8ft long anteater www.AmazonAnimalOrphanage.org

Our top tips for long plane and bus journeys with youngsters:

If at all possible, bring along a car seat for the plane or bus. This not only makes it safer for the child, but also cuts down on stress by putting them in a familiar and comfortable position.

Carry an extra change of clothes for yourself and baby: spills and dribbles happen!

Always have some snacks and drinks to hand. Non-perishable items like crackers and dried fruit are great keeping up the energy levels- especially when unfamiliar food is leaving your child hungry and cranky.
Only travel by night if necessary. Long, overnight bus rides can be rough on children as there is not much leg-room for comfort and few activities to keep them entertained. If there is no other way, make sure you request first floor seats on double-decker buses to avoid excessive bus swaying.

Keep up the interest levels in places like ruins and on city tours by getting your child their own disposable camera, that way they can create their own souvenirs of the journey and focus on points that really interest them.

Take along a notebook and a glue stick to create a vacation scrap book while you travel.

The Most Expensive Luxury Holiday In The World

A luxury break can't get any more luxury than a stay in the world's only seven star hotel, and with rooms starting at £550 per night, you need to do something spectacular to set yourself apart from the millionaires and celebrities that are often seen frequenting this lavish hotel. The solution is a visit to the Sky View Bar which not only offers panoramic views across the whole of Dubai, but also the most expensive cocktail in the world. The 27,321 is named after its price in the local currency but were the cocktail in England then it would have to change its name to the less salubrious £5,029.00.

Chartering a Private Yacht around the Maldives

The Annaliesse and her sister ship, the Alysia, are the most expensive chartered yachts in the world, and for a mere £85,000 per day, you and up to 36 guests can cruise around the Maldives in some serious style. The Annaliesse comes complete with 34 crew members eager to attend your every whim, and a range of on-board pamper facilities including a marble-faced Roman bath, sauna, steam-room, Jacuzzi, on-board beauty salon, therapy beds and even a massage centre. But even the most pampered princess can get bored from being polished and preened all the time, and if you find yourself needing to take a break from luxury, you can always escape to the yacht's onboard cinema and library.

Travelling on the World's Most Expensive Plane Ticket

Your luxury holiday begins the moment that you board the plane, so you probably want your outward journey to be as memorable as your luxury break. The world's most expensive plane ticket was a $100,000 ticket sold via eBay in 2007 to an Australian man, and his date, for a journey on Singapore Airline's inaugural flight using the jumbo A380 Airbus. But there's nothing like a bit of healthy competition in the travel industry and with Boeing having scheduled the first flight on its 787-Dreamliner for July 1st, you may be able to get your hands on a pricier ticket. Best start watching eBay now!

Eating the Most Expensive Meal in the World

The most expensive meal in the world was sold at the Dome Restaurant, Bangkok in 2007. The guest-list was a mere 15 people largely made up of American and Asian gaming and media moguls, and the price of the meal was a gut-busting $300,000. This involved six separate chefs being flown in from separate corners of the world and whilst the eight course meal has now been and gone, you can still enjoy a slightly cheaper meal whilst on your luxury holiday in the hotel's outdoor restaurant, Sirocco. The restaurant also boasts the accolade of the highest seafood restaurant in the world.

A Holiday in the Rani Resort, Maldives

The Maldives are a stunning destination for a luxury holiday and Rani is definitely one of the most luxurious and most expensive resorts in the world. A night here will set you back around £7,000 but you do get your money's worth. The four-figured amount gives you several hours use of the resort's main yacht and unlimited food and drink in the restaurant, as well as spa treatments. However, if you can't quite justify spending that kind of money on a day's worth of pampering, then not to worry as the Maldives has plenty of other lavish resorts and boutique hotels that are worth exploring.

10 Great Travel Tips

I have been to 80 cities in 30 countries. I'm not a travel expert by any means, but I do have some travel advice for the next guy. The biggest tip I can give is to do your research. Most of the tips I'm going to provide fall in this category and will be explained in greater detail.

Check travel Warnings and Alerts.
Make sure it is safe to travel where you're heading. Travel Warnings and Alerts are available at any of the regional passport agencies and U.S. embassies and consulates abroad. The information is also available online at the Department of State homepage. All information about travel warnings and alerts are updated constantly.

Register your trip. It is a free service provided by the State Department.
I don't want to deter you from traveling, but there is a good number of tourists that disappear each year. By registering your trip, they will at least have a starting place to look if you go missing.

When traveling abroad, make sure you have the address and phone number of your local U.S. Embassy.
In an emergency you want to have this information readily available.

Before traveling, find out if your health insurance company will cover you in an emergency abroad.
In the event of an emergency, cost is not your first concern, I know. It is however, a third or fourth concern. I had a friend who traveled to Thailand and had to have an emergency appendectomy. He spent four days in a hospital in Bangkok and when he got home he had a bill for $20,000 that wasn't covered by his U.S. provider. A travel insurance policy would have cut that cost to almost nothing.

Notify your credit card companies when traveling to unusual places or for long periods of time. The last thing you want to happen is to have your cards canceled by your credit card company because they believed the card had been stolen.

When checking your backpack at an airport, use a pack cover to prevent pockets opening and straps catching on conveyor belts. Now I can tell you from experience you don't want to be the person at the airport collecting their pack that is open and ripped to shreds. To add insult to injury, my journal was missing and everyone in baggage claim saw what type of boxers I wear.

Keep 20 bucks in your shoe. In an emergency, $20 can get you a ride, meal, and a phone call. It hasn't happened to me but I have met people with horror stories about being robbed abroad. With no money and no ID, they had to beg for a few bucks for a cab ride to the U.S. Embassy.

If your unsure about drinking the water where you're going, use a water bottle with a filter. You can get one at any camping store. When I was in Egypt and I was kicking myself for not having one of these. Remember different countries have different organisms in the water that the locals' bodies are used to. Forgieners might not have that same luck in drinking the water. When in doubt, drink bottled water with a name that you trust.

Go with the flow. Traveling, especially aboard is one of the best experiences you could possibly have. You'll meet tons of travelers who just want to see the world and have a good time doing it. Be respectful of others and their beliefs when abroad because they might be different from your own. Be open minded and friendly and I guarantee you'll have a great time.

The Success Of Granted Prayers In Puerto Vallarta

Let's not get into the socio and economic dynamics of the alleged flu. It not only gravely affected the tourism of Puerto Vallarta but also over 30,000 people lost their jobs, several restaurants and hotels shut down, wholly or in some measure. The street vendors go on days without making any sales irrespective of whatever they are selling. And I wouldn't sugar coat any complications that the people here at Puerto Vallarta are facing amidst the presence of no welfare, unemployment or no food stamps.

In such situations the movement of the "Food Drive," that began to provide food packages for all of the families who are suffering, came as a relief and also a savior in Puerto Vallarta. The choice to provide food to all of the families through the wondrous organization called "Child Protective Services" was another miracle because they "do" know best as to which families are most in need of this aid. They have designed five programs with registered people which further authenticate accountability.

The amount of donations that were made to the drop-off points was tremendous; the dominant donator being the PVRPV office on the Southside. Statistical measures were taken and it was calculated that a total of 672 packages of food, containing rice, beans, lentils and pasta, were distributed. Abundant voluntary help for putting these donations into packaging made this optimistic prayer, come true. On June 1st, when these food packages were actually distributed to the people, it was a great sight to see. It was gratifying to witness how a little push, a small act of unity and generous donations could do for all these families. The receivers for the food packages checked in at a systemized registration desk, got their vouchers, pulled out their bag, gave their voucher at the other end and left with a relief, a smile and most importantly food.

This was the prayer, which has now been answered. It was a much needed reality check for all of those around us to actually wake up and understand the tragedy that was happening to the people of Puerto Vallarta. This "Food Drive" was not only a success but a way to realize that prayers and dreams do have a way of coming true. This journey has just begun. This was just the first distribution of the food packages for all the people who were in dire need, but continuous support and donations from all of you will provide food and livelihood to all those who can no longer fend for themselves.

So please, keep donating and be the answer to the prayers of all these people. GOD Bless us all. Visiting and Staying in Caernarfon

Caernarfon is the beautiful country town situated in the county of Caernarfonshire, North Wales. Caernarfon has a lot to offer to its visitors, and the town is mainly known for its very own impressive Caernarfon Castle built by King Edward I. The stunning castle with spectacular towers, stands at the beginning of the Seiont River, and dominates the town, and is also one of Wales' most famous castles. The impressive architectural castle is not the same as other Castles built by Edward I which where used for defence, it was built to symbolise the power, and English dominance over the Welsh, and Edward made sure that his Son was born here on 1284, as the first English Prince of Wales.

Caernarfon also has an individual unique transporting system. It has a airport located within 4 miles, which offers pleasure flights, revealing the stunning country town from above, and an aviation museum is also situated here. It also offers Caernarfon railway station, which was once used as an important port, exporting slate from the Nantlle Valley Quarries.

Caernarfon also has a lot of other different things to offer its visitors. It has guest houses, hotels, beautiful hand made craft shops, swimming and sports facilities, a large golf course, tasty restaurants, and stunning visual architectures and landscapes. Caernarfon also has a small harbour and a stunning beach at Victoria Harbour. Caernarfon is a major tourist centre and is one of the only few towns that is mainly welsh speaking. It is said that just less than 90% of the community in Caernarfon is Welsh speaking. The local residents encourage visitors to enjoy there lasting cultural traditional town, and welcome them to learn and enjoy there rich historical past.

World Class Vacation Destination Cabo San Lucas

Cabo San Lucas is located on the most southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula. It is the place where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean. Although Cabo San Lucas is now a world class vacation destination and no longer a sleepy fishing village, it is still a small town and known for its friendly people. The population of Los Cabos (which consists of three areas known as Cabo San Lucas, the Corridor and San Jose del Cabo) has a total of 57,000 people. Land's end is a group of rock formations, in the Cabo San Lucas bay, that were formed by the wind and sea.

The most famous of these rocks is "El Arco" or "The Arch". This group of rocks is where the Sea of Cortez and pacific divide. There is a narrow strip of beach on Land's End known as Lover's Beach. The best way to get out to Lover's Beach, and Land's End, is to take a Glass Bottom Boat Tour. You can find them on the Marina or on the main beach in Cabo San Lucas, Medano Beach. For just a few dollars, they will give you a tour around the rocks and drop you off at Lover's Beach. The boats continually go back and forth, so you can stay out there as long as you'd like. You can swim on the Sea of Cortez side, but the pacific side is "just for looking" due to a strong undertow.

In the 1950s, celebrities such as John Wayne, Bing Crosby and Desi Arnaz came to Cabo San Lucas (which quickly became their favorite spot) for sports fishing. Since then anglers come from all over the world come to Cabo San Lucas to catch their "big fish". More recently Cabo has also become a world class golf destination, a popular port of call for cruise ships, and is still a hideaway for the rich and famous. The weather is sunny approximately 340 days a year so if you're wondering what the weather will be like on your vacation…the answer is almost always "sunny"! Be sure to pack your sun screen because the sun is a little more intense, and you don't want to spoil your vacation with a sunburn.

Cabo is known for its casual atmosphere, so don't worry about packing a tie, causal attire is the norm. Cabo San Lucas has something to offer for everyone with its spectacular weather, beautiful bay, its large full service marina, water sports, lots of shopping, delicious restaurants, romantic settings and great nightlife!

Desert Adventures to Wadi Rum and Petra

Modern technology has allowed us to visit many places that were once off limits, but technology still hasn't totally beaten the desert. The desert traps cars and trucks in its ever moving sands and travellers can easily lose their way with no roads or landmarks, so the best way to embark on desert adventures is on the 'ships of the desert' -camels - guided across the expanses of sand by both a GPS and the stars. That's what makes the desert one of the few places to embark on a journey with the gung ho attitude of explorer heroes like Lawrence of Arabia.

Like Lawrence, some mad men are drawn to desert adventures as they can be an unforgiving challenge. The desert's ability to both fry and chill - yet breathtakingly sensuous dune lines are often compared, by the poetically inclined, to a lover, usually female, and usually difficult. The endless, shapely and ever changing sand dunes radiate the romance of the desert adventure and the sun beating against them creates enigmatic and confusing shapes to beguile those who dream of conquering her.

Some desert adventures are quests; Wadi Rum is one of the most spectacular desert locations in Jordan, hire a local Bedouin guide and go on a two or three day trek by camel and sleep under the stars. But if your interest is more for the archaeological, then the ancient city of Petra, an abandoned necropolis of temples and tombs cut into towering cliffs of red sandstone will delight you.

The desert festivals and historic journeys of the Tuareg Salt Caravans promise quiet evenings of ancient stories told under the stars sipping mint tea, and days travelling the same un-marked routes as a thousand years worth of forebears. Your saddled camel could take you to Ksar Ghilane, every desert adventurer's ideal oasis, a cluster of green palms surrounding a still pool. Or to the Oases of Zagora, travelling between deep rocky gorges and the huge dunes, Cheggaga and Djebel Saghro; the settlements you pass between here are like ornate red boxes and lives tick by as they have done for thousands of years - for the old ways of life and ancient cultures are another of the deserts temptations.

Camels are an acquired taste; they have a reputation for being docile work horses, but their gait rolls like the ocean, which may be how they got their nautical moniker, and if they don't like you or another camel they're not beyond biting. Some guides will lead you into the desert on foot, where you'll have the feeling of wandering aimlessly into oblivion, your feet crushing nothing but sand and your vista repetitive. A desert adventure through the Moroccan Sahara is very different to a walk up a mountain, you have to be open to some serious self reflection; the vista's stimulus is unchanging but relentless.

To capture all the sensuous majesty of the desert you need to see it from above, preferably from the cane basket of a balloon coasting silently above it. Easily the most romantic desert adventure around.

Vegetarian Restaurants in Barcelona

Mediterranean Cuisine is the envy of the world, and Barcelona. is a hub of International cuisine, too. However, what about those visiting who are not meat-eaters? Read on to find the un-missable eateries in the Catalan Capital.

Barcelona is a great place to find food with the eclectic mix of kitchens from around the world inviting you to try anything from Cebiche to Kow Neow, as well as the fantastic local specialties too numerous to name. The Spanish have an obsession with meat, and Pork in particular (they sell the brains in the supermarket, right alongside the trotters, ears and tails for God's sake!) and most restaurants will offer you cured hams, roasted of grilled meats or at least have a very meat orientated menu - which is not much fun if you're a Vegetarian or a Vegan.

I'm going to give you the lowdown on Vegetarian and (mainly) Vegan options if you're visiting Barcelona. If you don't know the city well, it's of pure co-incidence that these restaurants are all fairly close together, considering the size of Barcelona, and the scope it has for restaurants.

First up is Juicy Jones. Juicy Jones has a couple of establishments - both in the old town. The one just off Las Ramblas, on Carrer Cardenal Casañas behind the PC City computer store is more of a Juice Bar, whereas the onelocated on Carrer Hospital is a little bigger. Juicy Jones offers the freshest ingredients for some fantastic concoctions and always a varied menu. Well worth a try.

Just two streets up from Carrer Hospital is Carrer Pintor Fortuny, and this is the location for two of the restaurants on the list. First is Organic, which is on the corner of Xuclá and as the name suggests, serves all organic produce and is very central, just a minute's walk from Las Ramblas. Organic has another establishment on Carrer Hospital, at Plaça Sant Agusti - just a minute's walk from Juicy Jones above.

Walk a little further into the Raval Neighbourhood., following Pintor Fortuny, and on the opposite side of the road is BioCenter - another great spot for Vegan and Vegetarian munchies. The shop bearing the same name on the opposite side of the road also offers produce and goods if you're renting a self-catering apartment, for example - along with other main supermarkets like nearby Carrefour and el Corte Inglés at Plaça Catalunya.

Finally we have Sesamo, which is located on Carrer Sant Antoni Abat, at the end, right next to Sant Antoni Market. This is a small, but popular place and serves "comida sin bestias" or "food without beasts"!

One last place worth a mention is "Fresco" which is an all you can eat buffet with various locations around the city centre, and although it's not strictly Vegetarian/Vegan, there's a huge salad bar for starters (go back as many times as you like), and there is almost always some vegetarian alternatives, such as pasta with pesto and cheese sauces, etc. I thought it's worth a mention as it's very good value for money - and healthy to boot.

Caribbean Whale Friends

Yesterday, I read an article mentioning Whale Watching as a $300 million industry. This sparked a few hours of research into how much of this leisure activity is taking place in the Caribbean and any known harm it might cause. Look what I found: Caribbean Whale Friends.

A handful of Caribbean countries have, as recently as 2006, been in support of commercial whaling, but it seems the majority of Caribbean-ites would rather watch the whales than harm them, and for this I am proud.

"Visitors can now go whale watching in a number of Caribbean countries including: Antigua & Barbuda, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guadeloupe, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines. "

"Whale watching is a growing industry in the Caribbean, in fact it is the fastest growing sector of the region’s tourism industry, and brings much-needed financial revenue to the region. By 2007, the industry was generating an estimated US$22 million annually."
Organizations such as this need our support. Visit their website and make a difference!

Best Beijing Travel Guide

Beijing is the capital city of China, and it is a world famous city filled with ancient history and culture. It is also China's political, economic, cultural, and transportation center covering an area of over 16,800 square kilometers. With a population of over 15 million, Beijing has a semi humid continental climate. Its winters are cold and dry, while the summers are hot and humid - both spring and autumn are short lasting. Because of the winter cold and summer heat, the best times to travel to Beijing are during the spring and autumn seasons.

Where Ji (Beijing today) was situated was a strategically advantageous location for development. It's situated on a small plain with three sides closed off with surrounding mountains, and expansive rolling plains to the south. Leading to the south were a number of gorges such as Shangguan Pass, Juyongguan, and Nankou Pass (south entry pass). To the northwest, there is Badaling (Eight Prominent Peaks, which happens to be a popular tourist destination for Great Wall Tours today), leading to the Mongolian plateau. With this, Ji was a strategic communications hub between the north and the south.

Beijing is the capital of China, located in the northern part of China. As the capital of China, Beijing stands as the nation's social, economical, political, and cultural center. Beijing has had a rich history of enduring invasions by warlords and foreign powers, devastating disasters, and has seen the rise and fall of generations of imperial dynasties.

Since 1949, Beijing officially became the capital of the People's Republic of china. This splendid city attracts millions of visitors and tourists from all over the world each year. Today, Beijing is the center and home of the greatest repository of historical landmarks and monuments from imperial China.

Beijing has a fantastic blend of historical tourism sites and modern 21st century technology and lifestyle. From the world famous Great Wall of China, Forbidden City Palace, Summer Palace, and Ming Tombs to WangFuJing, Tianmen Square, Beijing's West Railway Station, and China Central Television Tower.

The Beijing Opera has a history of over 200 years, and it is one of the key features of ancient Chinese culture. It was named Peking Opera as it evolved from several types of local operas that were performed in the city of Beijing. Its origins tracks back to 1790 during the Qing Dynasty, where 4 famous operas from Anhui Province performed in Beijing.

You'll also discover the wide variety of gourmet cooking Beijing has to offer including the eight most famous regional cuisines of China, ranging from the hot and spicy Szechuan style cooking, to light, non-greasy tasting ShangDong style, and the Huaiyang cuisine with a history traceable back to 300 BC, and most famous of all, Peking Duck (Beijing Duck). Peking Duck (Beijing Duck) history can be traced back to more than 1,500 years ago; however it has its roots in the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644).

The Extraordinary Adventure To The Southernmost Part Of The World

When Antarctica is mentioned, the first things that tend to immediately come to people's minds are sheets of ice and the very cold climate. But this extremely cold condition also makes this continent appealing to some tourists and adventurers. An Antarctic voyage is definitely not your usual tourist adventure which makes it much more fulfilling.

The continent is not inhabited by any human society. Scientists, modern explorers, members of expeditions, photographers, and adventurers stay in Antarctica, but not permanently. However, the continent being located at the southernmost part of the earth and possessing an unfriendly climate does not make it lifeless. It is inhabited by different species of mammals, birds, fish, and other groups of animals. Moreover, it supports 200 species of lichens and 50 species of bryophytes.

Trips to Antarctica are usually done between November and March. It is because after March, temperatures go as low as -100 degrees Fahrenheit or -38 degrees Celsius. Also, the sun disappears until September. The time when you decide to visit Antarctica influences what you are going to see and not see. During late spring or early summer, which is in November and early December, the scenery is white and pristine with pack ice and giant icebergs. This season also allows you to witness the courtship rituals of penguins and seabirds.

Going there in mid-December and January or midsummer gives you great photo opportunities even at midnight. These are the continent's warmest months and the receding ice allows for more exploration. Late summer, which takes place in February and March, is the best time to go whale watching as it is during this time when whale sightings are at their best. It is also during this time when penguin chicks begin to fledge, more fur seals are seen in the Antarctic Peninsula, and the receding pack ice gives ships the opportunity to explore further south.

You can take your journey by ship. A part of your trip will be lectures on the history and natural history of Antarctica. Trips often leave either from Ushuaia in Argentina or Punta Arenas in Chile. There is no visa required when going to Antarctica but you would need your passport for unscheduled stops.

The Antarctic animals make the continent worth visiting. These include different species of seals such as the Elephant, Leopard, Weddell, Crabeater, Ross, and Fur Seal. Then there are the different species of whales including the Blue, Fin, Sei, Southern right, Humpback, Minke, Sperm, and Killer Whale. Of course, there is the famous Emperor penguin and other species of penguins such as the King, Gentoo, Chinstrap, Adelie, Rockhpper, and Macaroni penguins.

Further activities that can be done include climbing the Observation Hill, which allows you to lay your eyes on the fantastic views of Mount Erebus and the Ross Ice Shelf. Another popular activity is soaking your cold muscles into the warm waters of Deception of Island. You can also go looking for a "Chocolate Iceberg", go kayaking up to icebergs, or send postcards to your friends straight from Port Lockroy, which is the one and only post office in Antarctica. A British station in the past, Port Lockroy is now a museum to early Antarctic exploration.

If you are in for one unique and unforgettable journey then having an Antarctic holiday should be on top of your list. There are great subjects to take photographs of, magnificent views to feast your eyes on, and opportunities to have a close encounter with Mother Nature. Now that the mysterious continent is open to tourists and visitors, do not miss your chance to have a firsthand experience of the mystery that enfolds Antarctica.
